Red Aspen’s shade of pink isn’t just pink… IT’S MILLENNIAL PINK.
Here’s everything you need to know about this contagious color, since it’s literally EVERYWHERE right now.
What is it?
A muted shade of pale pink with subtle undertones of blue, white and red. Call it salmon, apricot, blush, rosé, malibu barbie-esque… its presence in pop culture is evident nearly everywhere you look from the Grand Budapest Hotel to every Museum of Ice Cream exhibit popping up this summer.
Why did Red Aspen choose pink?
It is scientifically proven to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye! Rose Quartz, Pantone 13-1520, was officially named the color of the year in 2016. That established it as a color snapshot of the mood we're seeing expressed in our culture right now.
At Red Apsen, we totally fell in the love with this hue of pink, so that’s enough for us. ❤
This sounds made up. Is there some proof behind it? You bet there is! Cultural programming taught us to see pink as a “feminine color”, meaning we associate it with gentleness, emotional intelligence and a calming presence. Researchers in Sweden found that people were shown to be 12% more likely to fill out a survey if it was printed in pink.
It’s just for girls… Right? WRONG. Today, Millennial Pink is androgynous. What used to be considered a color for girl themed baby showers has now become an ironic #girlboss color that is both glamorous and edgy. It’s paleness is almost a non-color that can’t be confined to stereotypical gender norms. The color's noncommittal shade is proof of its sophistication. It is the “new nude.”
Millennial’s LOVE it. Unicorns, rainbows, strawberry Frappuccinos…. Millennials are nostalgic for youth and looking for anything that will keep fun and playfulness alive. A frosty pink crème is just the ticket. This shade of pink even occurs in nature! The water in Lake Hillier in Western Australia has a Pepto Bismol color, thanks to the special type of algae that grows in it. It's balmy shade of pink makes it one of the most Instagramed body's of water in the world.
Is this particular shade of pink taking over the world? We sure think so! Our beautiful, strong, fierce #BossBabe Brand Ambassadors are spreading it like wild fire. The power color has already seeped into every corner of life, from our rose gold iPhones to Drake’s Hotline Bling album cover.
