Pump it up, Maggie

Pioneers. Innovators. Visionaries.
Magnificent women that blaze a trail for those after them, we admire them, we look up to them, we aspire to be them.
That is who Margreta Forssman was, and she also happens to be the great great aunt of one of our Brand Ambassadors, Amber!

Born on July 13, 1900 in Sweden, Maggie immigrated to the US when she was just 14 years old through Ellis Island with her parents and sister. Immigrating to a new country can be daunting, but Maggie was up for the challenge.

Maggie was smart, motivated, self-sufficient and knew she wanted to build a better life for herself in the United States. She worked her way up to become a manager with the Illinois Bell Telephone Company in Chicago, building an amazing life for herself in her new country. She never married or had children, instead remaining fiercely independent until the day she died. She was adventurous and a world traveler, visiting places like Montreal, Israel and Sweden on her own. She took it upon herself to learn how to drive at 67 years young!

Maggie was also known for her giving heart. She was a fabulous cook, always whipping something up for her nieces and nephews to enjoy. When she passed away in the late 1900s, she left the majority of her possessions to her church and her great-nieces and nephews, as well as GREAT-GREAT nieces and nephews, on their 18th birthday. Her legacy lived on through nearly 4 generations because of her generosity, and she is remembered by her entire extended family for her tenacity and drive.

Reflecting on the trials and tribulations immigrant women faced in the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s, it is remarkable to think how strong and determined women like Maggie paved the way for single independent women today. Her determination and strength of character to make a living for herself and provide for her family generations to come inspires us all. Pairing her willpower to succeed with her business savvy is incredible! Her legacy to work hard and follow your dreams was felt by all of her family and those close to her.
